How to Record Browser Audio with DVEX Audio Recorder

DVEX Audio Recorder captures audio from a Chrome tab you select. It runs in real time, provides a preview, and lets you save WebM or WAV files.

Install the extension

Download the current release from the DVEX Audio Recorder product page. Extract the ZIP, open chrome://extensions, enable Developer mode, click Load unpacked, and select the folder containing manifest.json. Pin the extension for easy access.

Record your audio

  1. Open the source tab and pause your audio at the beginning.
  2. Click the DVEX extension icon to open the recorder.
  3. Click Record. In the sharing dialog choose Chrome Tab, select the source tab, and enable Share tab audio.
  4. Start playback from the beginning. The recording includes other sounds in that tab, so avoid unrelated playback.
  5. Return to DVEX and click Stop when finished.
  6. Listen to the preview, enter a filename, and save WAV or WebM.

If the recording is silent

Check that you shared tab audio, selected the correct source, and played the source while recording. The audio meter should move. If it stays flat, stop and repeat the sharing step. Protected content and browser policies can restrict capture.

Recover a completed take

Version 1.1 stores the latest completed recording locally. Reopen DVEX to recover it. Starting and finishing another take replaces the saved copy. Keep the recorder open during capture: interrupted recordings are not recovered. Save downloads you want to keep.

Limits to know

The recorder automatically stops after 30 minutes. It does not use a microphone or instantly download the original source file. WAV export decodes the existing WebM recording; it does not restore detail lost to compression. MP3 export is not included.

Record only audio you have permission to capture. Recording does not grant rights to publish or monetize the source material.
