WAV vs WebM: Which Audio Format Should You Export?
DVEX Audio Recorder offers two exports: WebM and WAV. The right choice depends on what you want to do with your recording.
WebM for compact audio
The recorder captures audio using Opus inside a WebM container, with a requested bitrate of 192 kbps. Actual encoding can vary by browser. WebM keeps files smaller and avoids converting the recording again during export. Confirm your player or editor supports it.
WAV for editing workflows
WAV export decodes the WebM recording into 16-bit PCM audio. It produces larger files and is convenient for editors that prefer WAV. It does not add back information lost during the original compressed capture.
A practical choice
- Choose WebM to keep a compact copy of the recording.
- Choose WAV when importing into a video or audio editor that works well with PCM.
- Keep an exported copy before starting another recording.
DVEX does not currently export MP3 or capture directly to uncompressed PCM. If you later convert to another lossy format, that introduces an additional compression step.
